A Bit of History…
Did you know that Mt. Baldy is in fact not the “official” name of the mountain? Believe it or not, Mt. Baldy was officially named Mt. San Antonio by the US Board of Geographic names in 1891. However, local gold miners had been referring to it as Old Baldy for 20 years prior, due to the barren top of the mountain. The name stuck, and now everyone refers to Mt. San Antonio as Mt. Baldy, including the school and the visitor’s center.
